just ordered my new grooming table from petedge shipping is 134.71 for commercial area and 73.00 for a truck with a lift and 50.00 to bring it into the shop--i would have never guessed that much.

Groomer in need. Please Help

Amy Brown, a creative competitor and fellow stylist needs our help. Amy
has been diagnosed with cancer and needs treatment. Like many
self-employed stylists, Amy does not have any insurance. She was sent
to a surgeon this week and was told that she needs this operation ASAP.
This cancer is a fast spreading cancer and NEEDS to get under control.
Amy told him she could not pay for it right now and he waived a huge
portion of his fees. However, the hospital will not let Amy schedule
her surgery until she has a down payment of $2500.00 for their part.

Ahhhh my top knot !!!

i have a little mini poo and i had to shave his top knot and now it won't grow back.
it's been months now and it won't grow i feed solid gold wolf king food and groom him every two weeks or so unless he gets real dirty between. his body hair grows normally and his face but not the top. any ideas?

Was wondering if any of you groomers out there have had the same thing happen to them?
I have had 2 clients in the past 2 months who have told me their dogs are female and they are absolutely 100% male!
Should I have told them the truth?
I did'nt want to burst their fantasy bubble, was wondering if this happens alot?

I was wondering how many of you groom way more poodle mixes than actual poodles. I have about 2 Maltese x Poodles to every 1 actual Poodle. I do more cocka-poos than cockers, more Goldendoodles to Goldens or poodles combined. Another popular mix I do is Bichon cross shih tzu. I actually think that's my favorite mix though. I see a lot of Beagle cross Pug or "Puggles" too. That mix seems to be getting more popular and they all seem to look the same here.

Tattoos!

Anyone here have tattoos?
I have 2(3 depending on how you count them..)... I'm a avid tattoo lover, actually was working to be a tattoo artist before i eventually decided i didnt like the work hours as they wouldnt be well suited for a future family..
I always intend on collecting tattoos, my next 3-4 already planned.. just needing the money.
Question #2: Are any of yours visible? What do your customers think?
Also if anyone has any questions concerning sanitary, the process, ect, feel free to ask! Worked in a shop for quite a few months.

Fight with a burr-bush....

This poor little guy, Buddy, had a fight with a burrdock and lost....
Owner came in, no appointment, but we just could not turn him away. This was the very worst case of burrs I had ever seen. It was obvious the dog was very uncomfortable. It had been 3 wks since the "incident" (yes, we gave him heck for not coming straight in then...) Underneath we found abcesses EVERYWHERE. Pulled little individual burr 'spikes' out from all over, including beside his eye, in his armpits, on his penis.....many were only sticking out maybe 1/4", but when they pulled out, they were about 1 1/2" long!!!
Some sores were pussy, red, swollen; we strongly suggested he take his dog to the vet in case it needed further treatment/antibiotics.
I had to use a #15 for legs and #30 for feet. The amount of debris on his feet alone was unbelievable!

To charge or Not to charge

I have a client who has two dogs, they are small dogs. She wants me to bath and trim up only. She is bringing them on Sat morning and wants to leave them for 4 hours while she has a breakfast meeting with some church woman. She doesn't want the dogs there since they will bark the whole time. She will drop them off at 9:00 (which I don't open that early, but I told her ok) and then pick them up around 1:00 or 1:30. Would you consider this pet sitting?? and should I charge her for it? If so, how much? She said that her last groomer would watch them but since she had a big business she had like 30 cages. I groom from home so I only have 6. The other dogs that I have on Sat are bigger dogs so I won't need the use of the small cages where her dogs will be. I guess I don't mind since I am going to be working anyway. I don't want to take advantage of her, but on the other hand I don't want to be taken advantage of either.

PO'd with the Furminator Shedless Company

A few years ago when shedless first came out, i purchased there salon package, it promised things such as allowing me to use there logo for my advertising material, as well as 25% off my orders (which is great)

I have noticed recently that there is a groomer in my area who is advertising shedless treatments with there logo (on kijiji) so i checked the furminator website and she is not listed as an authorized shedless faclity, therefore meaning that she cannot legally use there logo. I have emailed the company to place a complaint, but they haven't done anything about it, so what was the point (aside from our discount) of purchasing the salon kit if i could advertise without there permission!!! Grrrr....it makes me so mad....
