We are contemplating hiring a bather.  The groomers would still do the initial assessment + pre-groom.  The bather would specifically wash + dry the dogs/cats.  The groomers are currently working with 5-6 groomings per day from start to finish.  We are looking at increasing them to 8 per day with a bather.  In order to be "fair" with the groomers until they are up to 8 we have discussed paying the bather a "percentage" of each dog/cat they groom.  Anyone do this?  Thoughts?  Also, the retail end of the business takes all grooming calls, schedules appointments, changes appointments, secures all new client info, checks pets in + out, reconfirms the next day's appointments.  With that being said, I am trying to determine how the "split" of the percentage the groomers should pay + the retail end.  With all that we do at the retail end for the groomers, I do not belive the retail end should pay 50% of the percentage to the bather.  Looking for some feedback + suggestioin.

We pay our bather by the dog.
$5.00 for most, more if they are huge. The groomer checks the dogs condition, does any coat pre work. The bather does nails, ears, then the bath and dries to damp dry.
I groom the cats, so I bath the cats. Cats are harder to bath and will bite a whole lot faster then a dog.  A good bath and blow out is the base for a great groom, but it is even MORE important in cats. And cats are dangerous.

Totally agree!  Cats give you no warning they just attack!  With a bather what is the expectation for the amount of groomings the groomers should do per day without making it a "mill".  All our groomings are by appointment.  I want to keep that "personal" touch between the groomer + the pet.

We each do 6 to 10 dogs a day. Most of our clients want their dogs back fast. They want us to be nice to their pets, but they want fast
Our line is: "We go as fast as is comfortable for the dog"

That is a great way to respond to their request for "fast".  Thank you, again, for your input!

Yeah, I hate it when you get a very young, very old or special needs dog and people want us to "Push" the groom. Not gonna happen, I'm not stressing out the dog. I also keep biz cards of a great mobile grooming service in case people want a groom at home.
By the way, you can totally use our line!
