Just a quick update on the continuing rescue effort for the pets on Galveston Island (one of the most devastated areas after the hurricane.)  Yesterday I posted the first info under the wrong topic name (Hurrican Gustav) so if interested, please access it.  Running on little sleep and fuzzy mind, I guess.

The shelter on Galveston was completely wiped out so a temporary shelter has been created in an intact building on the island by the Houston SPCA.  Rescue teams of 2-3 people are going door to door (to the remaining standing buildings) to take food and supplies to pet owners who can maintain their pets in safety in their own location.  Dogs are starting to come out of hiding, but most cats are still holed up.  We have taken in everything.  Hay has been donated and the cows and horses in capture are being tended to.  A couple hundred pets have been transferred to shelter partners all over the state and teams of SPCA people from several states have arrived to assist.  The animals not in need of urgent medical care are being moved to safer shelter locations to make room for the ones brought in daily by the rescue teams.  As you can imagine, there is a great need for many things, including money.  Anyone can donate to the Houston SPCA via their website:  http://www.HoustonSPCA.org  and if any groomers would like to help by putting donation jars in their shops, it would be greatly appreciated.  There  is a wish list of needed items posted on the site and any collections of items would be so helpful.  I will reimburse any groomer for postage money spent to send supplies.  You can contact me directly at:  thegroomroom@sbcglobal.net.  I can't tell you how much this operation needs assistance right now.  We have pulled together every crate, dish, towel, toy and food source we have!  Will update again as I can.  Thanks

We've had a few dogs boarding with us from The Houston/Galvaston area. I,m in San Antonio so theres lots of people here from those areas. My sister in law actually lives in Houston so she's now staying with my mother in law (her mom) in a place called Wharton. Its about 30 mins outside of Houston and luckily they have power etc. I have a friend in Katy Tx that was without power for a few days. She rode out the storn and said it was really frightening. It was her first time being in a hurricane as she's from San Antonio and just moved up there last year. Its a terrible thing that all these people and animals are displaced.

Petpause, how are things going?  Please update when you have a minute.  I will help any way I can.  I am so far away but I can send some items that you may need.  Let me know what's on top of the priority list.

I have been speaking with Petpause and monetary donations are desperately needed for hurricane relief.  They are dealing with horses, pocket pets, dogs, cats, cows, goats, chickens, and all types of birds.  There is now an alligator and snake problem due to raw sewage and decomposing animals.  PLEASE consider putting donation jars in your shop and gathing funds to help these animals and the people who love them.  Just imagine living in the area that has been destroyed and your beloved pet was lost.  You would pray for someone to care for them.  THESE PEOPLE NEED HELP!
